Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Mexican Family consists of three cloth cultural dolls that were handcrafted in Mexico circa the 1940s-on. Included are the approximately 12" Father and Mother dolls, along with a 2 1/2" baby doll that is carried in Mother's shawl. The adults are wonderful cloth dolls that wear traditional Mexican ethnic costuming and accessories. Their molded mask faces are expressively painted with black brows, dark eyelashes, and red open mouths with beaded teeth. Their inserted dark pupiless eyes appear to be made of glass, or possibly plastic or celluloid. Hard to tell--. Notice their well modeled noses, their defined cheek modeling, and their sturdy chins. Both are portrait-like in their bearing. Mother's center parted black yarn hair is braided and embellished with a burgundy yarn hair ribbon, while father wears a straw sombrero over his tousled black yarn locks. On her back, Mother carries her sweet cloth baby, detailed with simply drawn black facial features and a few black yarn locks. The adults' firmly stuffed cloth bodies have been formed into natural, almost stationary positions with floppy arms and large "sandaled" feet with stitched toes. Their flesh tones sustain age related discoloration, more notably on their faces, and spotting on their arms and legs. Their clothing has also become discolored, dusty, foxed, and spotted with age and storage. Mother's skirt has unraveled at its front waistline and has been pinned in place. It is possible that this was the way her skirt was fashioned, as portions of both dolls' clothing have been pinned to their bodies. In their 12" sizes and sturdy condition, Mexican Family are striking cultural folk art dolls that represent a way of life that is fast fading in contemporary society.PLEASE study the photos carefully and email with all questions! My photos detail her condition accurately. Though I have tried to provide an honest and detailed description, I may have omitted information that is important to you. I have also provided photos that "speak volumes.
