Description: Mexican .75 Musket Ball, Battle Of Palo Alto, May 1846, Pack Of 1 Description Our SKU: 10479433 Item Brand: Unbranded Item MPN: 75676 MEXICAN .75 MUSKET BALL, BATTLE OF PALO ALTO, MAY,1846 This unfired .75 Mexican musket ball was found at the sight of Captain Ballista Battery by Private and (later) Sergeant William Alexander. He served in Captain Samuel Ringgold's Battery, Company C of the 3rd Artillery at the Battle of Palo Alta on May 8, 1846. During the battle Captain Ringgold was killed by a cannonball fired from Mexican Captain Ballarta's Battery. Ringgold's Battery turned all 6 of their cannons on that battery and fired 4 rounds that killed most of the Mexican cannon crew. Private Alexander with 9 other members of the battery charged the Mexicans and captured or killed the remaining gunners and officers. They captured four 4 pounder cannons and an 8 pounder from the battery next to Ballarta;s Battery. For his bravery William Alexander was promoted to Sergeant. This musket ball was bought direct from the Alexander family in Alexandria, Virginia. It comes with a certificate of authenticity.. William Alexander brought homer a large number of Mexican War artifacts to his home after the war. He was from Washington, District of Columbia amp; lived in Alexandria, Virginia when he enlisted in the 3rd Artillery in Alexandria.
