This form of tap is ideal for tougher materials because the thread is formed in stages as opposed to NON serial taps which form the thread in one pass and use the conventional Taper Second and plug. The roughing tap which takes out half the thread area is marked with a ring on the shank for identification. The Mid-Rougher which takes out to 75% of the area of the thread is marked with two rings on the shank. Only the plain shanked Finish tap cuts SIZE. #57334
