MERVIN JULES (1912-1994)Painter, printmaker - was born in Baltimore, Maryland and studied at Baltimore City College, Maryland Institute College of Art, and at the Art Students League under Thomas Hart Benton. He was stricken with Polio at a young age and was dependent on braces and canes to walk. It never dampened his sprits about becoming an artist. He lived on Long Island during WWII and had a home in Provincetown most of his life. He taught at the Fieldston School, The Baltimore Educational Alliance, Smith College and City College. His work is in numerous public collections including The Museum Of Modern Art, The Metropolitian Museum Of Art, and The Tel Aviv Museum. He is the recipient of Purchase Prizes from the Library of Congress, The Museum Of Modern Art, and The Brooklyn Museum. He was a member of the Society Of American Graphic Artists (SAGA).
