Description: MEMORY 1952 Emory at Oxford GA, students in minstrel, Old South theme. This is a phenomenal school yearbook, so much heritage in one volume! Emory located in Oxford GA was used by the Confederate troops as a training camp. This annual has the theme of the Confederacy throughout it with students shown in Confederate uniforms on several pages. There is even a page of blackface students performing in a minstrel show which was popular at that time. Another interesting anecdote is that the football teams are listed as Companies "A" "B" and "C" because Bishop Warren Akin Candler felt varsity football was a distraction to learning so only intramural competition was allowed. Thus Emory became known as "Emory NO football" and Emory & Henry College in Virginia became "Emory football"! Condition is "Used". 116 pages. Shipped with USPS Media Mail.
