Bernard Joseph Cunéo, born October 25, 1873 in Toulon (Var) and died December 11, 1944 in Paris 8e1, is a French surgeon, anatomist and professor of medicine.Son of Bernard Cunéo (1834-1901), doctor of medicine and director of the Navy health service in Toulon, Bernard Cunéo devoted his work to urology and the nervous system. He was a member of the surgery section of the National Academy of Medicine. His name remains associated with parts of the human anatomy, notably lymph nodes2 and a dimple known as Cunéo and Marcille.BiographyBernard Cunéo was born on October 25, 1873 in Toulon3. He is the eldest of six children4 of Toulon medical inspector Bernard Cunéo.After studying at the Naval Medicine School in Toulon, he went to Paris to take the externship exam, where he was placed first in his class in 1893. He was appointed intern at Paris hospitals in 1895 after passing the internship exam. Anatomy assistant in 1896, then prosector in 1898, he became a doctor of medicine in 1900 by defending a thesis entitled On the invasion of the lymphatic system in stomach cancer and its surgical consequences5.In 1900, he obtained an aggregation in anatomy, then in 1903, he became a hospital surgeon.During the First World War, he actively looked after, with his colleague Louis Ombrédanne, the wounded and disfigured soldiers of Verdun6. At the end of the conflict, he was appointed chief physician at the bone graft center in Joinville-le-Pont.In 1929, he was professor of medical-surgical anatomy.
