Description: We believe our sweet little 1950s Michael Thonet inspired bentwood stool is a salesman sample because of its measurements. It is 12" high x 12" at the diagonal on the legs and the seat is 10" in diameter and " thick, and weighs approximately 4#. The stool shows evidence of previous use with scratches and scuffs mainly on the seat; otherwise, in great condition. We believe it is beechwood which was the most prevalent wood used in that era for making bentwood furniture. It is stamped on the underside Romania and has a couple of quality stamp marks as well. Our mid century modern stool is sturdy enough to sit upon, to use as a plant stand, or a seat for that special doll or stuffed teddy bear. Little but mighty it is! Thank you for looking. Michael Thonet established a factory in Romania to meet demand for his furniture in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The factory in Balta Srat, initially known as Industria de Lemn Borlova-Armeni S.p.A. Caransebe, began expanding its economic relations. In 1921, the company was acquired by Mundus and later merged with Thonet, the company of renowned designer Michael Thonet. After this merger, Thonet-Mundus became the largest furniture manufacturer in the world at that time.
