Description: Great shape for being 70+ years old. Between them there is a single chip on the front (a few on the back that faces wall as well), and that is on the larger fish’s upper lip (examine photos for all chips). Handmade by unknown artist with only initials for signature. One appears to be dated 1950, and one appears to be dated 1951. Whether they were made specially for a person and gifted one year apart or the artist made lots and these just happened to be purchased at the same time but from different two separate batches, I do not know. The two fish appear to be different species or perhaps one is a male and one a female. They are similar but have strong differences as well. They face different directions so you can pose them facing each other as though preparing to kiss. They each have an opening in the top, which could be used to store or display anything that fits. They each have two holes for mounting (ideally via nail) to wall. There is some crazing lines inside the opening, but the outer parts of fish are crazing-free, very glossy. The white on exterior is a bit of a drip glaze effect like you see in brown Hull pottery of the era (among others). The brown varies in shade and is multitone, especially where the contours and textures transition.
