Description: A beautiful 8” x 10” color print by aviation artist Spencer Taylor, likely commissioned by McDonnell Douglas to paint an image for MD Missile Systems Co., St. Louis, MO of a Douglas F-18 Fighter jet carrying an Advanced Interdiction Weapon System (AIWS). The Advanced Interdiction Weapon System (AIWS) was developed by McDonnell Douglas and Hughes Aircraft. In 1986, the U.S. Navy had started the AIWS program to develop a new precision guided short-range standoff attack weapon. The program was combined with a similar program of the USAF. The AIWS competition was won by Texas Instruments (later Raytheon), who received a contract in June 1992. The outcome was the AGM-154 JSOW. This print appears to show an F-18 carrying an AIWS. Artist Spencer Taylor was later commissioned to paint a mural of Black aviators, which included the Tuskegee Airmen and Guion Bluford, the first Black astronaut in space. The mural is on permanent display at the St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL). Beautiful condition, not framed. Provenance- McDonnell Douglas
