Description: Maxfield Parrish’s “The Young King Of The Black Isles” & “Queen Gulnare Of The Sea” - Original Matched Set of Illustrations (pages 72 & 86) from 2 different 1909 1st Editions of Wiggin & Smith’s ‘The Arabian Nights’. Both Images are 6 1/2”x 5 1/4”. Outermost (matched) Period-Frame dimensions are 9 1/4”x 8 1/8”. The frames are from a cut-down, mitered R. A. Fox frame from 1921. They exhibit vintage signs of wear, paint/glaze rub-off and original nail holes (photos 13, 14 & 15), not too visible from the front, couldn’t resist the charmed look; (nail holes were re-nailed where applicable). Note: Selling as a “Set Only”. Parrish (MP) signature not discernible due to coloration and illustration reduction. Both are backed with 2-ply acid-free rag board, new hardware, dustcover, and bump-ons, November, 2024 and ready to hang. Excellent color and condition. Both the King & Queen were originally painted for, and appeared as color frontispieces in Collier’s Magazine (May 8, 1907 and August 3, 1907 respectively) featuring Arabian Nights VIII and X respectively. Quite a nice size/cost alternative to the prints (Ref. Flacks 4th Ed. pages 46 + 52 (last 2 photos, #’s 22 & 23). Note: The first 15 photos are taken without glass to avoid reflection/glare issues; photos 17, 18 & 19 after completion of project.
