Description: Maxfield Parrish’s “Villa Medici” (Rome). Original Matted and Period-Framed Illustration from the 1904 1st Edition (facing page 101) of ‘Italian Villas and Their Gardens’ by Edith Wharton. (Illustrated by Parrish). My favorite of the series. Upon closer inspection, one can see the dome of St. Peter’s midway to the right of the Villa (photo #4). The beveled Matt is textured ecru (photos 6 thru 9). The colors and detail are stunning. The image measures 7 3/4”x 5”, outermost frame dimensions are 11 3/4”x 7 3/4”. It first appeared in the February, 1904 issue of Century Magazine featuring ‘Italian Villas” Part III (facing page 564). The frame is a period photo frame from the 1920’s. It is backed with acid-free rag board backing, new hardware, dustcover and bump-ons, November, 2023. The first 11 photos are taken without glass to avoid reflection/glare issues. Photos 12 (slight angle) 13 & 14 after completion of project.
