Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Mauser developed the 66SP sniper rifle after the terrorist attacks on the 1972 Munich Olympics, and built only around 400 over their entire production run. It may be the rarest military-issued sniper rifle in the world. Most went to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), but they were also used by Germany’s GSG-9, the Italian Carabinieri, Indian special forces, and reportedly by the British SAS. Fewer than 200 have been imported into the United States over the past quarter century. To my knowledge, only ten of the US imports were sold with original Mauser QD (quick detach) scope bases. This is milled from heavy steel, weighing in at 11.6oz (328g). The throw lever is attached to the base using a hacksaw-shortened machine screw secured by a dab of blue Loctite. A Colt takedown detent and its (shortened) spring give the throw lever the friction it needs to stay in place while being attached to the rail. The end result is solid. The bases fit easily and lock securely to the rail on your rifle. They are unmarked, none has had a scope mounted to it, and most show minor dings from long term neglectful storage. The photos show the mounts used as a base for two different Israeli surplus scopes. The "high" Sako steel 30mm Optilock rings on the Schmidt & Bender 2.5-10x56 scope leave about 3.5mm clearance while mounting the scope to the rail, so they could probably work with an objective lens up to 63mm. The Photonics 6x42 scope, from an IDF-modified 7.62mm rifle, has an elevation turret with BDC calibrated for 168gr bullets. Although these scopes were likely NOT issued with the 66SP, they are externally identical to the 66SP-correct ones issued calibrated for M118 (175gr) ammo, and are perfect for those 66SPs that prefer 168gr ammo at longer ranges. It is mounted using aluminum Williams 26mm rings. I may have spares of the latter setup if needed. Obviously, this auction is for only the scope mount. No rings, scopes, rifles, accessories, or real estate are included. This is exactly the item you see selling on GunBroker. I’ll check messages daily to answer any of your questions or add photos if needed. GUARANTEE: If you don’t like this mount for any reason, send it back in original condition at your expense within one week of delivery and I’ll refund your payment less a 20% restocking fee (this discourages “tire kicking” and ensures I don’t lose money on postage).
