Born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1936, Meyer studied at the Memphis Art Academy. It was during his explorations and his formal training that he recognized his love for the work of the seventeenth-century painter, Rembrandt. Embracing the traditional realism of the Dutch Golden Age, Meyer has developed a style using highlights and dark, complimentary hues that earned him the moniker, "Rembrandt of seascapes." Collectors have commissioned Maurice to paint glowing seascapes of Hawaii, Cape Cod, The Pacific Northwest, Laguna Beach and Florida for many years. Meyer's artwork is breathtaking in both its scope and its details; particularly inspiring are the images he creates of beaches, waves, and dunes; his talent for translating this natural beauty to canvasis what has earned him worldwide renown.
