Description: Mass. Vol. Militia 2nd Pattern Distinguished Marksman Badge A more popular style using the star design over the 1st pattern round pennant. This style was a much improved and favored badge for Massachusetts Distinguished Marksmen. The Boston Globe dated February 1892 article commented, “The medal is gun metal bronze in the shape of a five-pointed star. The centre carries the Massachusetts State Coat of Arms encircled by the words, “Distinguished Marksman.” The pendant hangs from a bar bearing the raised letters, “MVM.” The reverse of the medal has the inscription “Erce Petit Placidam Quietam Libertate,” from the state seal, surrounding a circular space in which is to be engraved the name of the fortunate winner.”Later style pin-back. 65mm high.Fine condition, with some verdigris buildup on the back.
