Description: Description:This is an advertising bookmark printed by the "Maryland Casualty Company - Home Office Baltimore”. It touts its insurance services on the front and reproduces a picture of a Baltimore mural on the back in black and white. The mural is titled “Washington Surrendering his Commission” and the bookmarks states it is “From Blashfield’s Mural Painting in Baltimore’s Courthouse”. It is copyrighted, 1903, J. W. Shaeffer. The painting is by Edwin Howland Blashfield who painted it in 1903 at the Clarence M. Mitchell, Jr. Courthouse in Baltimore, MD. Here is a description of the mural and its meaning (from a Wikimedia page): "Mural painting of General George Washington’s resignation as commander-in-chief of the Continental Army at Annapolis, Maryland on December 23, 1783. In the central panel, Washington is depicted laying his commission at the feet of Columbia, who is seated on her throne with a sword, cuirass and wearing a liberty cap. Opposite Washington is a female figure representing Maryland. Behind her the Goddess of War is seen sheathing her sword and Resistance to Oppression breaking her rod, while Prosperity bears a horn of plenty and Commerce, holds the caduceus. Seated near the throne is the figure of History. In the left panel are officers and troops presenting arms. In the right panel is a magistrate, an officer of the French and Revolutionary armies." I have no idea of the date of the bookmark. It was found in an antique book, so anything is possible. It is in excellent vintage condition with just a slight bit of wear along the top edge, as noted below. Condition: This vintage bookmark is in excellent condition. There are no soil marks, tears, or odors. There is just a very slight trace of handling wear on the top edges as well as a bit of faint sunning at the top as well. Very nice condition. (Please see photos for details.) All items are wrapped and packed carefully in cardboard to ensure their safe arrival.____________________________________Okay, here are all those pesky little details: Payment:I ask that you pay within 3 days. If you are having an unexpected delay, just email me to let me know. Life happens, but communication can solve almost any confusion. I do combine postage on multiple items going to the same address. Just email me to let me know so I can send you a revised invoice with the adjusted postage.Nonpayment:I am a pretty easygoing person, but if I haven't either received payment within 3 days or heard from you, I have to assume you aren't planning on actually making the purchase. This means I'll have to follow eBay procedures for nonpayment of an item.Shipping:I always choose the least expensive form of shipping in order to save you money. The U.S. Post Office provides great service and their package tracking is free on all your purchases. However, sometimes speed is more important and I am happy to upgrade your shipping options if you can pay for the additional costs. If you contact me BEFORE payment, I am happy to set up alternative shipping methods, such as FedEx or UPS. I am an excellent packager and have a good supply of mostly recycled packaging supplies. I assure you I will take great care when I pack up your items. I've never had any damages yet! I go to the Post Office almost every day, so you can be sure that your item will be packed up and on its way to you either the same day or by the end of the next business day. Customer Service/Communication:Please remember, I have no control over the speed of the shipping once I drop your package off at the Post Office. I ship quickly on my end, but sometimes "stuff happens" during transit. I'm so sorry, but remember, it wasn't me. I personally hate it when I don't know what's going on with my online orders. Therefore I make sure to send you plenty of emails to let you know the details of your payments and the status of your shipment. Before you leave negative feedback, please email me first. I can usually figure out a solution to just about anything! And if you have any questions at all I am always happy to answer them.Returns:I want my customers to be happy with their purchases so I stand behind what I sell. If you are unhappy with your purchase within 30 days, you may return it; buyer pays postage. If I have made any errors in my description, I will pay the postage myself.Feedback:What makes eBay work is its feedback system. Please remember to leave honest and fair feedback promptly and I will do the same for you! Thanks for visiting The Occasional Something!Come again! _gsrx_vers_1292 (GS 8.3.6 (1292))
