Description: Description This flower vase is the result of a collaboration between Marutomi (Marutomi Lacquer Ware) of Sabae, Fukui Prefecture, and Italian design master Ettore Sottsass. This is a rare and highly valuable lacquered version. The unique form unique to Sottsass is so modern that it is hard to believe that it was designed in 1997, nearly 20 years ago, and has the presence of an objet d'art. It is made by utilizing the technology of Echizen lacquerware for professional use (plastic). The inside fabric is made of wood resin (a mixture of 55% wood powder and 45% phenolic resin) and lacquered. The lacquer is not applied by hand, but by spray painting. It is said that only craftsmen with advanced spraying techniques of the time were able to apply the lacquer so beautifully to such a difficult shape.
