This is a unique autograph version of McGwire's 1985 Topps card for two reasons: It includes the rare 1980s McGwire signature, which is identified by the tall, upright strokes and distinguishable lettering of "Mark". By contrast, in the 1990s (and beyond) as McGwire's popularity surged and the demand for his autograph increased, his signature morphed and became hastily signed with very few legible letters and just a "MCG" visible. (You'll notice that the overwhelming majority of his autographed 1985 Topps cards on eBay include the more recent "MCG" signature.) This card, on the other hand, with the rare 1980s McGwire signature, is a nice relic from the days before his popularity surged into the 1990s.The PSA slab also includes the rare, full inscription of "1984 USA BASEBALL TEAM" on the new label. The overwhelming majority of other PSA/DNA labels for this card include some form of abbreviation such as " '84", "BSBLL", "B.BALL", "TM", or the like.
