Description: An antique Silver enamel thimble by Nowegian Marius Hammer c.1900-1920. Stamped inside, in the apex of the thimble, is the mark of Marius Hammer - the letter 'M' with a hammer and 930 S. It measures 2.3cm tall x 1.7cm rim. It has small white enamel dots on the rim. This thimble has not been a display item; it has had a ‘working life’ reflected in the condition: red crystal/ glass apex has historical cracks and the enamel has worn away between the zig-zag lines on the sides; the small dots have some enamel loss; thimble slightly off round. The enamel in the zig-zag triangles may have been pink or red as some small areas of colour are still present (last photo) Please scroll through all the photos as they form part of the description. Thank you for viewing my listing. Marius Hammer (1847 - 1927) settled in Bergen in 1871;during the late 19th and early 20th centuries established what would eventually become Norway's largest gold-smithing workshop.
