These include ten oval city views according to Braun & Hogenberg (Prague, Cologne, Speyer, Heidelberg, Strasbourg, Nuremberg, Frankfurt, Trier, Mainz and Leipzig) as well as eight figurative representations of the emperor and the seven electors with their coats of arms. A coat of arms cartouche, a compass rose and a sailing ship decoration on the North and Baltic Seas complement the map area, which extends from Flensburg in the north to Warsaw in the east and Venice in the south to Dunkirk in the west. The map was first published in 1621 with a slightly different representation. The map presented here belongs to the much rarer series published from 1647 onwards with the border engraved by Pieter Hendricksz Schut in which the emperor and the electors are shown standing with their coats of arms and no longer riding. It was published by Claes Janszoon Visscher (1587 - 1652) (also known under his Latin name Nicolas Joannis Piscator) in 1652. The map covers an area from Flensburg in the North via Warsaw in the East to Venice in the South and Dunkerque in the West. It is surrounded by ten city views according to Braun & Hogenberg (Prague, Cologne, Speyer, Heidelberg, Strasbourg, Nuremberg, Frankfurt, Trier, Mainz and Leipzig) and eight depictions of the emperor and the seven prince-electors with their coats of arms. The map is further enriched by title cartouche with a coat of arms, a compass rose and ships in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea.This genuine copper engraved map measures 45 x 56 cm (plate size) and is in good condition. There is some browning due to age and the centerfold has been professionally strengthened with thin Japanese paper from verso. This is the much rarer, updated edition of this map, published from 1647. The older and more common edition was first published in 1621 and contained depictions of the rulers on horses and not in a standing position.
