Manuel Álvarez Bravo. Fue un destacado fotógrafo mexicano, sus primeros trabajos se vincularon al cine. Nació el 4 de febrero de 1902 en Ciudad de México, México. Con estudios de arte en la Academia de San Carlos, Manuel Álvarez Bravo se formó de manera autodidacta en el arte de la fotografía, a partir de lo que veía y aprendía en revistas especializadas y, en particular, de los consejos del fotógrafo alemán Hugo Brehme, quien llegó al país en 1905 y se especializó en fotografiar las distintas facciones que participaron en la Revolución Mexicana. Luego de su encuentro en 1923, Álvarez Bravo se animó a comprar su primera cámara y empezó a experimentar con ella. En 1925 se casó con la fotógrafa Lola Álvarez Bravo e inició su carrera como creador independiente. Dos años después, conoció a la italiana Tina Modotti, por quien sentía gran admiración. Al ser deportada del país en 1930, Modotti le cedió su trabajo en la revista Mexican Folkways, lo que le permitió fotografiar a los más destacados muralistas y conocer diversos escenarios y lugares del país. Sus primeras actividades fotográficas estuvieron vinculadas al cine. En la década de los cuarenta se relacionó con el director ruso Sergéi Eisenstein y participó en varias de sus películas, entre ellas la famosa cinta ¡Que viva México!, generando fotografías fijas Manuel Álvarez Bravo fue maestro en la Academia de San Carlos y en el Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos. Manuel Álvarez Bravo. He was an outstanding Mexican photographer, his first works were linked to cinema. He was born on February 4, 1902 in Mexico City, Mexico. With art studies at the San Carlos Academy, Manuel Álvarez Bravo was self-taught in the art of photography, from what he saw and learned in specialized magazines and, in particular, from the advice of the German photographer Hugo Brehme, who arrived in the country in 1905 and specialized in photographing the different factions that participated in the Mexican Revolution. After their meeting in 1923, Álvarez Bravo was encouraged to buy his first camera and began to experiment with it.
