Description: This chunky volume was published by His Majesty’s Stationery Office and is dated 1937. It is a hardback reference book comprising 612 pages. The comprehensive text is illustrated with explanatory diagrams, statistical information and black and white photographs. There are also a few pages of advertisements of the era at the front of the book and towards the back. The book was intended for use by members of the Forces and the introduction explains that the objects of the manual were: “To co-ordinate throughout the Service in peace and in war, efficient methods of driving, operation and first line maintenance of mechanically-propelled wheeled vehicles. To co-ordinate throughout the Service, the training of personnel in order to render them fit to assume responsibility for such vehicles.’ It is an interesting piece of social history as well as a technical guide to vehicle operation in a past era. The book has been well used and has an aroma of mustiness. It shows signs of its good age and previous handling, including some pencilled margin notes by previous users, but these do not impact on the text. There is also some pen or pencil mark blemishing to the cover – see photos. But the text remains legible throughout, the pictures clear and the spine, though not perfect, is intact. It measures approx 7.5x5 inches in size.
