Description: Unique And Virtually Unknown to collectors, Huge, Silver, Abraham Lincoln Medal By Ron Landis, Completely Hand Engraved and Listed in the Cunningham book on Abraham Lincoln Medals and Tokens as 24-1110-U. It was commissioned by D. Wayne "Dick" Johnson in 2010, the founder and owner of Signature Art Medals. Ron Landis was founder of The Gallery Mint, and he was the foremost hand-engraver of medals in the country, having created hundreds of hand engraved dies for his medals during his career. His passion was creating medals in the almost forgotten hand engraving technique, which he taught himself over several years, using original hand engraving tools. This Abraham Lincoln medal or plaque as some may call it because of its size, being offered is totally hand engraved and signed by Landis, on a large, oval, polished, silver planchet. It was obviously inspired by the large oval U.S. Government George Washington Indian Peace Medals of the 1790's, which were hand engraved in a similar manner. Pictured on the front of the medal is Abraham Lincoln with arm raised, his hand on a Bible, taking the Oath of Office from the Chief Justice Of The U.S. Supreme court, for his first inauguration in 1861, below is his name and inauguration date. The reverse pictures the Arms of the United States, similar to the ones that appear on the reverse of the George Washington Indian Peace Medals, with "R. Landis, MMX" near the lower edge. The medal is Silver, Oval, approximately 5 1/2 inches by 4 inches in size, and is in uncirculated condition as made. Considering the many hours of time spent by Landis, working on the medal, an hour or so per day, it must have taken several months to complete the commission for Dick Johnson, therefore the cost of the medal to Johnson must have been substantial. No dies were used to make the medal. This hand engraved medal in my opinion, is the highlight of Landis' career, a career that has given collectors so much enjoyment with so many wonderful coin copies (which are clearly marked copy) and medals to collect, now and for future generations of collectors. Please note: The medal will be shipped in a USPS small flat rate box for added protection. Please note 2: I am having trouble with my camera, the medal is bright shiny polished silver, not the yellowish or dull silver color you see on some of the pictures. And honestly the medal looks better than any of my pictures show, but it was the best I could do. All offers will be considered.
