For whatever reason, they have chosen to have their photos made together. Below photo is printed:"Curtiss,Madison, Wis." There is no back mark. Edwin Rodney Curtiss was a very active photographer in the Madison area. He appears in the city guides as early as 1860 as a Daguerreist, and is listed as a photographer at various Madison addresses until his death in about 1906, after which his son carried on the business for a time. Card measures 4.125 x 2.5 inches. Image measures 3.625 x 2.375 inches. Portrait vignette measures 1 x 1.5 inches. Yellowing to image. Fading to image. Soiling to image and card, especially on right edge. Edge wear to the beveled, scalloped and gilded edges of the card. My mother was a photographer who collected antique photos of all types for years. As I am settling her estate, I will be listing these photos as quickly as I am able. There are hundreds of photos to go through, and I am trying to match any information my mother may have left with individual photos. Unfortunately, Mom had dementia at the end of her life and wasn't able to tell me much about her collection. She had done a lot of research into photographers and individual pieces in her collection, and often, but not always, filed her research with the photo(s). I search for more information on the internet and in history books, but it's a slow process and it will take me a long time to complete the sorting and selling process.
