Madame Alexander loved the Novel "Little Women" written by Louisa May Alcott in 1868, about four young girls and their mother growing up in the time of the Civil War. It speaks across generations of discovery, heartache and love. Each of the sisters' cope with the tumultuousness of the war and the absence of their father in a different way: The third March sister, Beth is very shy and quiet with a love of music. Always trying to please other people, she is concerned with keeping the family together. Beth has shiny, long very dark brown/black hair. The sides are rolled and pulled back, tied with a blue, satin ribbon bow. Her waist length hair is tightly curled reaching just past her shoulders. A fringe of bangs frame her beautiful, hand-painted face, boasting sparkling, blue, eyes that open and close . Beth is dressed in a two patterned, floor length, blue and powder blue, diagonally checkered print dress, that was consistent with this time period. The bodice boasts a high white lace collar with a baby blue satin bow centered over a lace lapel. Puffed sleeves in a corresponding floral print are decorated with a blue satin bow, then taper tightly across the forearm and are edged with embroidered lace at the cuff. The hemline of the skirt is decorated with white lace. One inch over the hem a one-inch band of of the floral print has been edged on both sides with white silk embroidered looped trim. Underneath is a sparkling white lace trimmed petticoat and pantaloons. White knee-high socks are tucked into russet/tan boots decorated with two tiny gold balls place on the sides.
