Description: For sale is a print of Kelly Freas’ painting “Great Moments in Medicine: Presenting the Bill”, originally published as the back cover of MAD #48, July 1959. This incredible print was published in 1988 by Stabur Graphics for F.C.Publications. Many people say Norman Mingo was the premier cover artist for MAD Magazine, but my favorite issues will always be those with Frank Kelly Freas covers. His work on this print is outstanding with incredible detail and vibrant colors (the pictures cannot do it justice). The subject matter is a parody of the Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical company’s series of ads titled “Great Moments in Medicine” and Freas has even gone as far as parodying the signature of Robert Thom (the artist commissioned to paint many of the original ads for this and “Great Moments in Pharmacy”) as “Hubert Thumb”. It is from my large MAD collection. The print is signed by Freas and is #161/395 of the limited printing. The size is 24” X 25.5”. It was never displayed and was stored in a tube out of the light since purchase. It is in excellent condition except for some foxing on the bottom border (please see pictures using the magnifying tool). Much of the foxing would be covered by a framing mat, but a good paper conservator could return the print to pristine condition. It will be shipped in a tube between a front and back cover of kraft paper.
