Description: Beautiful tribal portrait of a Lepcha Sikkim female in traditional clothing and jewelry. She’s so pretty and her smile is lovely! Listed artist: M. Sain (India) 20th century Medium: oil and or mixed medium (acrylic) on canvas mounted to board?? Or canvas board. Painting appears to be on canvas possibly later mounted to board (most likely done during framing) or on canvas board. You be the judge! Dates: 1950’s 1951 according to footnotes that were on the paper from back of framing. Paper was falling off but I kept it for provenance. Measures: 14” x 17” Framed: 17.5” x 21.5” Condition: visible fading and or discoloration in hair, bloom, other light areas of fading and discoloration within portrait. Some paint loss with uneven varnish or loss of varnish and bloom. Background shows surface debris stains and spots. Toning from age. Painting needs to be cleaned and revarnished. Painting also has other tiny spots and or stains. It is in my opinion that she still hangs very nicely but I also feel it could use a bit of restoration. Painting will be sold as-is, as shown. Touch up and or restoration needed to fix above conditions stated.
