Description: Pelham & Lucretia by Edward Bulwer Lytton (Lord Lytton). Published by Clarke, Given, and Hooper, New York. University Edition. Decorative gold sheen along top of pages. I am not sure of the age of this volume. Comparing it to similar editions from other authors by this publisher I would say the date is around 1900. This copy actually has four works by Edward Bulwer Lytton. The first novel is "Pelham or Adventures of a Gentlemen". This novel is 481 pages long. There is a frontispiece illustration at the beginning. The second novel is "Lucretia or The Children of Night". It comes with the preface to the 1858 edition. It also comes with the preface to the first edition by the author. It starts after the first French revolution but plays to a large extent in Great Britain. This novel also has a Frontispiece. It is 450 pages long. The third work in this book is a novella called "Falkland". It comes with a prefatory note to the Knebworth Edition. It is mostly written as a series of letters except for the last part which plays in Spain. This novella is 101 pages long. The fourth work in this book is also a novella called "Calderon, The Courtier" It plays in Spain and is the story of a couple and the father of the girl who has been hiding his identity. The novella is 59 pages long. Condition: Some wear and scuffs to the outside cover as can be expected for a book of a century or so ago. The binding has begun to split as you can see on photo of one of the opening pages. Some wear to inside front cover towards the top right and a stamp with name on first blank page.
