Lyman K Swenson Hand Signed Autograph 1926 Book US Navy Captain WWII Guadalcanal

Description: UP FOR AUCTION: ORIGINAL, AUTOGRAPHED BOOK: Lyman K. Swenson Hand-signed by Lyman Swenson in black ink on top of a book's front page (see pic). Lyman Knute Swenson (1892 -- 1942) was an American naval officer. Swenson was born in Pleasant Grove, Utah and graduated from the Naval Academy on June 2, 1916.... Commanding Captain Swenson and his ship, U.S.S. Juneau, were both lost in the latter stage of the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal, 13 November 1942. (from Wikipedia) Autograph is large and sharply written in black ink. The line measures approx. 4 inches wide by .5 inch high. The signature is on the top of the front flyleaf page of the 1926 book "The Intimate Papers of Colonel House" by Charles Seymour. This is a 1st Edition, Hardcover, 1926, book about US Colonel Edward Mandell House, who was a close friend and advisor to President Woodrow Wilson. Colonel House played a major part in shaping America's wartime diplomacy during World War One. Charles Seymour -- who later became the 15th President of Yale University -- wrote the book. The book measures approx. 9.75" x 6.5" x 1.75". The book is in Good-Minus Condition, because it has many scratches on the front cover. The inside of the book is very clean, well-bound, solid, tight, and sharply printed. It is a 1st edition, with a gilded top edge. This book appears to have been hand-signed in ink by Lyman K. Swenson. Because it is signed on top of the front page, it is very likely to be an indication that Lyman Swenson owned this book. The signature appears to be authentically hand-signed, as each letter of black ink is very sharp and dark. The marks of the signature can be seen from the back side of the autographed page, indicating the signature is not a part of the book's printed text. I purchased this book on-line many years ago to add it to my collection of books authored by Yale University Presidents. I realized only recently this book was likely to be from the actual collection of a famous US Navy Captain. I could not find any other autographs of Lyman K. Swenson; therefore, I do not know if the signature is similar to any other of his autographs. I believe it is Lyman Swenson's hand-signed book, because I have seen thousands of books in which the former owner designated his ownership by signing the top of the front flyleaf page.
