Walter Wolfrum flew 423 combat missions in which he scored 137 confirmed victories, and claimed a further 40 victories unconfirmed. His victories include 16 Russian Il-2's, (known as the cement bomber) and difficult to shoot down... He was wounded 4 times and had 12 crash landings, He was awarded the Ritterkreuz on July 27, 1944 when his score stood at 126 victories. Walter Wolfrum Joined 5./JG52 in Feb, 1943. The unit was commanded by the Ace Johannes "Macky" Steinhoff. In combat and before scoring his first victory, Wolfrum was shot down 3 times, resulting in being wounded twice. After scoring his first victory, Wolfrums victory score rose rapidly; he was later transferred to command 1./JG52, the unit in which he served with and had his most successful day, claiming 11 victories in a day on May 30,1944.
