This is an outstanding work in fine original condition from an estate sale with many of the artists prints and paintings that was held here in Northern California. Louis Oscar Griffith, landscape painter and etcher, was born in Greencastle, Indiana. At an early age he went with his parents to Texas and it was there that his work later attracted the attention of Fran Reaugh, a well known painter of that State. A friendship was established and Mr. Reaugh’s early training and encouragement were of lasting value. Never to be forgotten are the painting trips which Griffith and Reaugh took in a covered wagon through the South West. Desiring the advantages of a larger city for study and material, Griffith went to St. Louis and soon afterward made his home in Chicago, attending the art institute there. While living in Chicago he made sojourns to France, England, New York, New Orleans, and Texas. During this period he made many sketching trips to Brown County, Indiana, and later returned to this, his native state for his permanent home and studio.
