Description: This is an original oil on canvas board painting by Louis Macouillard. It is signed L. Macouillard and dated ‘65 lower right. It has the original Maxwell Galleries tag on the verso. The painting is in excellent shape. The only observed flaw would be a small white paint dot in the upper middle sky. Dust in a few spots, could use cleaned. Note: The blue sea is a bit darker in some of the pictures, this is due to my lighting and size of the painting. The painting is approximately 22x28” with visible area being 21x27” The frame is approximately 28.5” x 34.5”, it appears to be a period frame, likely original. There are some knicks and dings in the frame. Louis Macouillard (1913-1987) was an American artist known for his work as a painter, illustrator, and muralist. Born on September 8, 1913, in San Francisco, California, Macouillard became a prominent figure in the California art scene. Education: Macouillard pursued his education in art at the California School of Fine Arts (now the San Francisco Art Institute), where he honed his skills in painting and illustration. He also studied architecture at the University of California, Berkeley, which influenced his approach to composition and design. Artistic Career: Louis Macouillard's work is characterized by his vibrant use of color and a strong sense of design, often depicting scenes from his native San Francisco and other parts of California.
