Condition is generally G++ to VG or better with some varying degree of rubbing to spine edge and some rubbing and light discoloration to the patina of the rear covers. Several issues with light ex-library ownership. Contents generally clean and neat. Newsstand copies; no mailing labels. Commemorates the joining of America with Britain in WWII. Issue includes Profile of Charles Atlas by Robert Lewis Taylor, Comment by E. B. White, Letter From London by Mollie Panter-Downes, John C. Mosher cinema review of classic The Man Who Came to Dinner, Kay Boyle fiction and more... Partial split to cover at spine edge archivally mended with japanese kozo tape. VG- $22.5 January 17, 1942 - Constantin Alajalov cover of a line of burlesque dancers putting on the ritz as they hit the stagelights. Issue includes Irwin Shaw story "Welcome to the City," St. Claire McKelway poem "Boogie-Woodie Ballads," Letter from London by Mollie Panter-Downes and more... Light damp evidence bottom spine corner with slight surface abrasion to cover and a mild ripple to the page stock. Prior owner's initials penciled to the front cover. G++ $17.5 March 21, 1942 - the 1st Ludwig Bemelmans illustrated cover for the New Yorker - an American school boy drawing a victorious dogfight with the Nazi Luftwaffe on a chalkboard. Issue includes early John Cheever story "The Peril in the Streets," James Thurber story "Here Lies Miss Groby," Lockheed Advertisement featuring the P-38, John Mosher cinema review, Liebling long piece aboard a tanker return from Europe, and more...
