Description: This lot is devoted to the Norddeutscher Lloyd Bremen Lines Steamship SS Europa which had its maiden voyage as a passenger liner in 1930, held the Blue Riband for a period, was captured by the Allies at the end of WW2, used briefly as a troop ship to funnel US soldiers back from Europe, and then turned over to the French to use as a war prize. This lot comes from the period leading up to the start of the second world war, and includes the following: Interesting menus, each with a cover that corresponds to a different German city, person, or notable landmark (the back usually (but not always) has a description of the front, in three languages: -October 12, 1931, Columbus Day -Breakfast, Dinner and Supper Menu-August 3, 1936 Lunch menu- August 6, 1936 "Today's Program"-August 6, 1936 - 3 Lunch menus, each with different front and back covers-September 9, 1938 - Special dishes menu-September 9, 1938 "Meatless dishes" menu-September 11, 1938 Dinner menu-September 12, 1938 Lunch menu-September 13, 1938 Lunch menu This comes from the estate of a cruise ship aficionado who enjoyed cruise ships and also collected items. According to receipts many of these items were bought at antique stores in the 1990's, and have been kept safe in plastic envelopes within a binder, and inside of a trunk ever since. They were carefully catalogued into sections.
