OUR STORY: Most of the designs represent Christmas or winter settings, such as angels, life of Christ, church, snowflake and skating scenes. Others are more natural, picturing birds, various wildlife, toys, and musical instruments. My mother, Dorothy Kjorlaug Cummings, manufactured this etched-brass ornament along with many others in her home-based company near Minneapolis, Minnesota in the 1970s and 1980s. Nearly 100 ornament designs were made under her pseudonym, "Kristin Kjorlaug" and by several contract artists during the 16 years of her company's life. Each artist's design is identified by her initials on each ornament. Kristin's letters are "kk." Company names were "Kristin Kjorlaug Inc." and "Kristin Company Inc" and sometimes Mother used "Old World Metal Art." The company closed in the late 1980s, but a large inventory remained at the time of her passing and has been in safe storage. I am offering them all for sale until they are gone. All our ornaments are for hanging on a tree, on a mobile, in windows, or for wearing as a necklace. Several are long enough to be used as a bookmark. People have come up with their own creative ideas on how to use them! Now is a great time to invest in the designs you love before they are sold! Many of the ornaments bear the original manufacturing date which adds to their uniqueness and value for your home. My mother would be pleased to know that her ornaments are still going to homes across the world to add to the special meaning and focal point of Christmas--Christ our Savior. Many of them serve well for other occasions too, such as graduations, birthdays, and just special gifts for friends at any time of year. "Kristin's" ancestry was Scandinavian, and her desire was to capture Swedish and Norwegian stories and themes in many of the ornament designs. One of those is "Swedish Lucia," also known as "St. Lucia," which represents the tradition of a maiden in the family who would awake early at Christmastime and deliver a warm breakfast treat to the others yet in bed. To view the other ornaments, use the search phrase, Kristin Kjorlaug Brass Ornaments. Dorothy's Granddaughter, Kristin: I am glad to also announce that our own daughter, Kristin, has begun to offer in her local area some of these ornaments, along with some of her own craft ideas. She also just published her first book, "Jesus' Unexpected Family Tree." Our Kristin has taken her grandmother's company name and formed her own business, "TheKristinCompany.com" You are welcome to check out what she is doing to continue the legacy of Kristin Kjorlaug! Here is more technical detail about the ornaments: The material for the ornaments is solid, yellow brass. These days, laser technology has replaced the methods used by my parents 40 to 50 years ago.The process of making these ornaments was chemical etching. The original artwork was captured on film which was then applied to large sheets of pure yellow brass containing many repeats of the same design. Then the sheets were bathed in a chemical process that etches away all the brass except for the artist's brushstrokes. The sheets are then lacquered and buffed. Then the individual ornaments are manually cut away from the sheets, checked for quality, and packaged. They were then sealed in their retail packages for sale. Dimensions: Most of the ornament designs are within the length-width dimensions of 2 x 3 inches; a few are roughly 1.5 x 1.5 inches. Each ornament is roughly .5mm thick. There are a few websites, including some on here on eBay, where these same ornaments are listed by various sellers. They are independent and separate from my business. The Kristin Kjorlaug ornaments that they sell should be considered by buyers to be used, even if they are in their original plastic bags. You are assured that my listings are accurate and that the ornaments are unused and in original packaging, unless I indicate otherwise. The photos in my listings will always feature an ornament outside of its package, with either a black background or against a colorful winter or Christmas scene background. Some of the remaining ornaments are blemished (very slightly, and some moderately), due original etching errors. I will always indicate that to a buyer and reduce the price before selling one. I am generally holding-off on selling those until designs are nearly depleted. However, if a buyer desires to own one or more blemished ones at a reduced price, I am willing to sell them. In many cases, the blemishes are so minor, you cannot see them from an arm's length distance anyway. Thanks for looking! KCCU
