Description: Limoges AKCD Dinner Plate Purple Pansies Gold Klingenberger & Dwenger 1900-1910 Exquisite Decorative 9 1/4" PLATE, Scalloped & Embossed Rim w/Gold Trim, Fancy Mold, Purple PANSY FLOWERS w/FACES and Green LEAVES, circa 1900-1910 from Limoges, France manufactured by AKCD Alfred Klingenberger & Charles Dwenger DESCRIPTION: The plate was skillfully hand painted by a talented artist of the AKCD Studio. The purple, black & white pansy flowers are very realistic looking with their cute faces & light yellow centers. The bold, bright gold (both stippled and solid) is used to accent the rim and embossing. Study the purple pansies noting the many white highlights that give them character. The background color is a very light ivory color. There are grey ghost leaves to give depth to the design. The overall quality of the design is quite professional and beautiful to behold. CONDITION: The condition of this decorative plate is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There is no gold wear. There is no rubbing to the paint. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings or hairlines. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is. DIMENSIONS: The elegant plate has a diameter of 9 1/4" and a height of 1 1/8". HISTORY/MARKS: Operating in the porcelain business since before 1870, the German born Alexander Klingenberg established a porcelain factory and decorating studio in the 1880’s in Limoges, France on Rue De La Fonderie. Upon his death in 1894, the business was purchased by Charles Dwenger in 1895 and was operated successfully using the AKCD mark until it closed around the time of WWI. They manufactured porcelain and decorated it to appeal for export to the American market. According to Mary Frank Gaston in Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition, this red mark (#9) was used from 1900-1910. It also has the green France mark. .
