Are the hinges for your turntable's cover cracked and not holding? Or maybe worse, they are broken in two. The reason for this is that they put a very strong spring inside a plastic hinge and expect it to last. Well, it doesn't. They break all the time. To add insult to injury, if you replace the hinges with new ones, after a little while they will do the same thing, break. So you might be asking, how can I stop them from continually breaking, and save money in the process? I am glad you asked! Custom designed 3D printed hinges I too was faced with this problem, and the more I looked into it, the more I thought that this just can not be that hard. It took a little time, a few tries and failures, and a few moments of "what if I did this?" The result is a replacement hinge with none of the problems of the factory ones, is affordable, reliable, and easy to install. I designed these hinges for my Stanton STR8-80 because Stanton never replied to my support requests and after years of trying, I gave up and made my own. These hinges are a little different; they do not use springs but instead have a hard stop at a little over straight up to keep the lid open, they also have the lid shifted back about a quarter of an inch to help with alignment and balance. I have been using them on my turntable for a while and they work fantastic. I can not say how long they will last, but since there is no stress caused by a strong spring (because it doesn't use one!) I would imagine that it should last far longer than the factory ones. The two parts of the hinges are held together by a #8 bolt and a nylon lock washer (that is why the bolt is a little longer than it seems like it needs to be). That nylon lock washer ensures that the nut will never fall off causing your cover to come crashing down and possibly breaking. Lots of turntables use these hinges It turns out that a lot of turntables by Teac, Stanton, Sony, Reloop, Citronix, Pioneer, Etc all use this same design and so I put the measurements in the following images: While many turntables can use these hinges, please make sure you measure your existing hinges and that these will work before ordering these replacements. These are also designed to hold a plexiglass lid. If your lid is more than just a piece of plexiglass it may prove too heavy for the hinges. These are custom 3D printed parts and will not have the same smooth finish as mass produced parts. They may also have cosmetic defects and blemishes that will in no way affect the operation of the parts. Payment I accept payments through PayPal and ship only to verified addresses.
