Description: This mask has a glossy smooth surface, flat back, and lack of eye holes. It makes me think this was likely a mask made to sell to tourists, rather than one used in ritual. This was (and is) a very common practice throughout Africa from the late 19th century onwards. The form and features look like masks made by the Dan people in Liberia. Signed on the back: To Anatoly - From Anotoly 10-25-97 N. Dartmouth. Many individuals at Dartmouth collected throughout the history of the college. My guess would be that this was an object collected by a professor or someone else associated with the college and was part of their collection. Features: • Has scratches consistent with age and use, especiall on the top knot. PLEASE SEE PHOTOS • 15" X 5.5" Condition: Pre-Owned Good
