The continuous load/unload drawer access and robot arm system allow you to continue slide processing without interupting operation. The easy to use menu and microprocessor has memory for 15 programmable settings with 25 programs per setting. Easy to read digital display with push button settings. 18 Reagent stations and 5 wash stations and an integrated forced hot air (30 - 65C) oven that significantly reduces drying time. The integrated fume containment hood and extraction fan with the integral charcoal filter are good. This system holds 18 solution buckets and 5 wash buckets and 11 slide racks, however none are included with this system. Will require the stain pack and tubing as well before in can be used. The flexibility of Leica Autostainer XL (ST5010) permits simultaneous processing of specimen slide holders according to various staining protocols. An oven is integrated into the instrument which accelerates drying of specimen slides. Optimized wash stations provide for rapid removal of reagent residue. The design of the specimen slide holders ensures minimal reagent displacement and prevents the reagents from being contaminated by liquid dripping into them and needing to be replaced prematurely. The Leica Autostainer XL (ST5010) is safe to use and has an integrated system for extracting reagent vapors. The specimen slide holders are loaded and unloaded using two drawers The Leica Autostainer XL ST5010 is a versatile and efficient high throughput automated slide stainer which is an essential component in the histology laboratory. It allows multiple staining protocols to be run simultaneously with up to 11 slide racks at the same time. A unique feature of the Leica Autostainer is the ability to perform several different staining protocols at once. During long staining procedures, the Leica Autostainer offers a continuous loading system which ensures optimal use of the instrument. For example, a special staining can be performed while a routine H & E staining procedure is in progress. Applications: Staining is a process by which tissue sections are dyed or given color in order to visualize the tissue morphology. The most common method of histological study is to prepare thin sections (3-5 micron) from paraffin embedded tissues in order to effectively stain the tissue sections. This process involves the removal of the paraffin wax from the section, the hydration of the section and finally the staining of the thin section of tissue. There many different stains and staining techniques. One common staining procedure, hematoxylin and eosin or the H&E staining procedure, uses hematoxylin to stain cell nuclei (and other parts) blue and an eosin dye to stain the cytoplasmic elements and other structures pink or red. Routine Hematoxylin and Eosin staining is the primary means of staining tissue sections and is the cornerstone of tissue based diagnosis. Properly applied, this technique provides exceptional detail of tissue structure and the makeup of the cells. This detail is required for tissue-based diagnosis, particularly in the detection and classification of cancer. Special stains use a variety of dyes and techniques to stain particular tissues, structures or pathogens (such as bacteria) to assist with tissue-based diagnosis.  Condition & Testing This is a very nice automatic slide stainer in excellent cosmetic and tested working condition with some normal sign of use in the form of a few minor scuffs but no visible damage. I believe it is working fine. The motor runs to progress the slide racks. The oven heats up quickly and quietly. The exhaust fan is working and the filter looks good. The digital display is clear and the push buttons are working properly. The on/off switches are working. The leveling legs are good. The lid is good with no damage.
