Sent by the Minister of War for an art mission on the front line in 1915, Mayeur devoted himself to the representation of the last remains of the monuments on the Front of Artois. Travelling through the area, he sketched scenes of fighting and the ruins of iconic buildings. Printed in the form of postcards, these drawings were sold for the benefit of warworks.
