Description: "Leap Year",,,, You can not escape....Nothing on this card except the "PCK" logo, top back....it looks like the "Peacock Brand" trade mark, but not the same ID... Do not know but it might be a Peacock Brand card... Pictorial Stationary Co., Ltd. (Peacock Brand) 1897-1914, London England, began printing standard sized cards in 1902 under a variety of different trade names. These cards were printed in Leipzig, Saxony A leap year, also known as an intercaley year of bissextiole year, is a calendar year containing one additional day, added to the calendar year synchronized with the the astronomical or seasonal year. In folk tradition, in Ireland and Britain, it is a tradition that women may propose marriage only in leap years. While it has been claimed that the tradition was initiated by Saint Patrick or Brigid of Kildare in 5th century Ireland, this is dubious, as the tradition was not heard of before the 19th century. Also supposedly, a 1288 law by Queen Margaret of Scotland (then age five and living in Norway), required that fines be levied if a marriage proposal was refused by the man; compensation was deemed to be a pair of leather gloves, a single rose, £1 and a kiss. In some places the tradition was tightened to restricting female proposals to the modern leap day, February 29, or to the medieval leap day, February 24.The card has some major creases, corners and body but the image is so bright and clear, they are hardly noticeable. Please see the scan closely for details. If purchased, it will be mailed promptly upon receipt of payment. Free World Wide Shipping....
