Le Moniteur de la Mode (Paris) was a weekly fashion magazine for which all the plates were drawn by artist, illustrator and lithographer, Jules David, from its launch in 1843 until his death in 1892, numbering about 2600. Together with another established artist, Compte-Calix for Les Modes Parisiennes (launched the same year), he introduced the atmosphere of a conversation piece, placing his figures in more natural interiors and landscapes. His plates were subsequently issued in many other magazines in France, Europe and America, including The Englishwoman's Domestic Magazine.
