Description: Lautrec by Jacques Lassaigne, translated by Stuart Gilbert. A title from The Taste of Our Time collection planned and directed by Albert Skira. Hardcover with dust jacket, 119 pages, approximately 50 paste-down color plates. From the final printed page: "This volume of the series 'The Taste of Our Time' was produced by the technical staff of Editions d'Art Albert Skira. Finished the fifteenth day of February nineteen hundred and seventy-two. Text and illustrations printed by SKIRA Color Studios...printed in Switzerland." From the dust jacket: "The Taste of Our Time: The Lives and Works of the Great Masters Past and Present. Painters and Their Times, the Ideas and Innovations which have Revolutionized Men's Way of Seeing and Shaped our Modern Sensibility. The Atmosphere and Color of Famous Places as Seen in the Works of Great Painters. Biographical and Critical Studies, Complete and Up to Date, by Authoritative Writers, Covering the Entire Field of Art. From 50 to 75 Color Plates per Volume, Reproducing not only Famous Works and Characteristic Details but Many Significant, Unfamiliar Works." In very good condition. The book itself is beautiful: interior pages and color plates appear to be flawless, with a neatly written gift inscription on first free endpaper; boards and spine are clean and unfaded with no apparent wear; bright red Skira "S" on front and rear boards, LAUTREC on spine; dust jacket has no tears or chips; there are creases along top and bottom edges with some scuffs on front and back. The book opens as if it was seldom read, and binding is tight enough to make satisfactory picture-taking of interior plates difficult.
