It is marked CHINA suggesting the period 1891 to 1919 (to comply with USA import requirements) which falls at the end of the Qing Dynasty and beginning of The Republic. It is a contrasting mixture of metals, brass, copper and a white metal. It is a "Shou" box, promoting longevity. The unusual rolled top has two Shou calligraphy style symbols flanked by half circle style Shou symbols. The borders of the top are etched with "crossed logs". The sides of the box each have copper plaques with pomegranates (fertility) in high relief. The front of the box has a rectangular copper plaque with a circular Shou center and bats in the four corners. There are four half ball feet. It is 3 3/8" by 2 7/8" and about 2" tall. Weight is over 13 ounces. Significant flaws not depicted in the photos are described here-with, minor flaws and normal wear are not. Unless the item is described as new, assume there will be minor flaws or wear commensurate with a used item of given age. If Free Shipping is offered it will be by the cheapest method possible, for books that will be Media Mail.
