Description: A gallery poster of the year 1977 promoting a Fifth Avenue exhibition at the Robert Miller Gallery, for Pop Artist LARRY RIVERS (1923-2002). The colorful and complex image is signed by Rivers with felt marker at lower right and numbered 46/100. Larry Rivers, born in the Bronx of Ukrainian Jewish parentage, is considered a major figure of the second generation of the New York School. According to the Wikipedia listing, he is considered by many art scholars to be the "Godfather" or "Grandfather" of Pop Art, one of the first to "merge non-objective, non-narrative art with narrative and objective abstraction". Rivers attended the Hans Hoffmann School in the late 1940's. By the early 1960's his ascendance in the art world was well underway. Today his paintings and drawings can sell into the hundreds of thousands of dollars at major auction; in 2010 a painting hammered for $950,000. This print is in excellent condition. It measures 23" by 22" and 26" by 25" in the simple framing. You may wish to re-frame with a proper mat so that the print is not flush against the glass. See the net for much, much more information on Larry Rivers and his place in contemporary art in the second half of the twentieth century. Allow for a few reflections in the photos.
