Description: A rare original Russian oil painting on canvas by a known Russian Armenian Soviet Painter Oganes Piloyan. The painting depicts the iconic Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin, who is visiting a Russian peasant family in the village. He is surrounded by children and the woman holding a child. The children all wear peasant dress and are mostly bearfooted. Lenin is depicted wearing his formal suit and tie as always. There is an interesting iconic image behind him on the wall replacing the customary Orthodox icon with the picture of a Red Army soldier in uniform. Close examination of the painting will show obvious parallels with a traditional Russian wedding iconic pair depicting Jesus and a Mother of God with the baby Christ at his side. All images appear mystical and static. A real example of a Soviet period iconography replacing traditional Christian theme! Interestingly the painting is done using traditional Armenian school colors and style. Even the face of the great leader looks more Armenian. The work was done in preparation for the sentential of Lenin's birth in 1970. It was executed in late 60s. Lenin's sentential was celebrated throughout the vest Soviet Empire with multiple art exhibition dedicated to the life and deeds of the great leader and Soviet Saint. Signed on the reverse. The work comes on it's original stretcher, unframed. It is in generally good condition except for minor ares of paint loss and scratches on the perifery as shown on picture. They do not detract from an overall beauty and appearance, and could be easily touched up. Extremely collectable and very decorative! Ready to hang! 100% original. No evidence of restoration.
