Description: This is a Coastal Series cork bodied decoy made by L L Bean with a major problem. When we found this decoy we thought it to be a resting redhead. (Which would be really rare because L L Bean did not ever make resting red head Coastal Decoys.) It turns out that it is a mismatch with a canvasback body and a bluebill hen head. The head does have a reddish color but it is probably an undercoat showing through. It measures about 17 inches from beak to tail, is 6 inches from the top of its head to the bottom of the keel. It is 7.5 inches wide and weighs 1 pound, 9 ounces. Our best information is that L L Bean made Coastal Series Decoys from the 1960's into the 1990's. We suspect that there are not a lot of decoy collectors looking for a mismatched decoy. It may be if someone needs a Coastal bluebell head or a canvasback body, these are available at whatever you think would be a fair offer. (Or maybe somewhere there is a canvasback head stuck on a bluebill body and, by some miracle, things can be made right.)
