Based on the lightest model in the series, Subaru’s specialist motor sports arm ‘Subaru Tecnica International’ (STI) completed a total tune of the STI typeRA specC. With a limited release of 400 units in 2002, the S202 was characterized by its uncompromising focus on agility. Weight was further reduced with forged aluminum wheels and a lightweight titanium muffler, while rear suspension arms featured built-in pillow ball bushes (a significant innovation in a production car at the time) to deliver control that was both sharp and linear. The lighter body combined with a 2-liter horizontally opposed 4-cylinder turbo engine that used STI’s ball bearing turbine and dedicated ECU to increase output to 320ps without compromising driving control. Other features included a special slit brake rotor that enhanced braking power, and a dry carbon rear wing with a two-stage angle adjustment.
