Description: Korean Liquor Wine Upscale Box Very Nice! Heavy w/Ornate Hardware 20th Century This is a really fine Korean wooden liquor box. Most likely, it is made from Mahogany wood, and very well constructed. Originally, this would have been a very nice gift with two bottles of liquor inside. The wood has a very beautiful grain and doesn't appear to have much age - probably mid to later 20th century. It is not uncommon to find the paper lining with Chinese characters in Korean furniture and chests, and the bat shaped hardware on the handle is also a popular motif. The Chinese character for bat is pronounced the same as the Korean character for good fortune, which leads to using the bat motif in Korean designs. The box is medium in size, measuring approximately 10 inches in length, 10 inches in width, and 11 inches in height, with a weight of 8 lbs. It is in very good condition, with usual surface wear, for its age. No major scratches or nicks, just some slight wear on the bottom.
