The inner coloring of this Bustcon carica seashell is a light blue/gray/black/white. The outer shell is gray/blue/white. The colors of this specimen make it perfect for craft projects. You can display from either side, very versatile. Gray/Blue/Black coloring comes from being buried in the sand. Very little oxygen, or none at all, produces the darker coloring. Other factors, such as the mineral content of the sand, contribute to the coloring of a seashell. Knobbed whelks can be found along the Atlantic coast from Cape Cod to Florida and can reach up to 10 inches. It is the state shell of Georgia and New Jersey. The life expectancy of this marine gastropod is 10 to 15 years. Crabs, star fish and sea urchins are among the knobbed whelk's predators. This knobbed whelk specimen measures 4 1/4 inches in length and 2 1/2 inches in width. Great addition for your seashell collection.
