Manuscript DS: "Christian Rex" on verso as King of Denmark and Norway, 1¼p, 7¾x11¼ tipped to 9¼x11½ sheet. Copenhagen, 1787 February 16. In Danish, not translated, but a letter of naturalization in which the King grants full citizenship to Christian Gortzke, a royal guard. Christian VII reigned from 1766-1808. He was 17 when his father Frederick V died. Christian, a grandson of British King George II, married Caroline Matilda, sister of King George III, the year he became King. Their marriage was dissolved in 1772. Neglected in childhood and brought up by a cruel tutor, Christian was imbecilic and hopelessly insane by 1784 and relinquished control to his 16-year-old son, Crown Prince Frederick, who ruled as Regent until his father's death in 1808. Folds. Lightly creased. The seal touches the "ris" in Christian. Show through from 2¾-inch diameter seal on verso touches 6 lines of writing on front.
